UVA Hume Fountain

To see it as we did--pitch black, we toured the campus of UVA around midnight on SPD. If you're unfamiliar, part of the campus (the Lawn) was created by Thomas Jefferson and we briefly saw Edgar Allen Poe's dorm room.  The light went out as soon as we got to the exterior display window.

To our surprise, most of the buildings were unlocked for our touring but the most unique aspect was the Hume Fountain, or "Whispering Wall."

On the UVA grounds, the Hume Fountain exhibit consists of a carved half circle of stone with a bench on either side. Even with the inscriptions, students can sit on each side of the sculpture and communicate with the slightest whisper.
