Chalmette Battlefield

After the battle, both sides spent January 9 treating their wounded and burying their dead.  The British began a retreat.  In the next week, British vessels on the Mississippi bombarded St. Philip, 35 miles downriver from the battlefield.  On January 30, the British fleet set sail and on February 12, the British captured Fort Bowyer and prepared to march on Mobile.
